Blue Plate commission

Blue Plate Interactive donation kiosk

Local business giving back

I was approached By a friend and asked if I could help with a new interactive.
The project was to create an interactive donation kiosk for a local company BLUE PLATE. The Kiosk would be place in one of Blue Plate's many local restaurants. As a  restaurant patron gets his or her bill they are given a small round chip. They are then prompted to approach the kiosk at the front door, as the visitor stands in front of the Kiosk they are prompted to choose a charity they would like to donate to. A large video monitor displays 5 different options. Directly under the screen are 5 tubes representing the different charities. The visitor then has the option to drop the chip into a tube. As they do so an IR sensor reads the chip and adds a step to the growing tally listed on the monitor in the form of a bar graph. The monitor also give information about the restaurant as well as the different charity they are voting for. After a given amount of time the charity with the most votes is given a donation from the restaurant.

Once we came up with a working design I began fabrication of the machine.

The frame is constructed on 1x1 steel tube and welded

The fram was then skinned with Celtec.

The tubes are constructed from Polycarbonate with delrin caps for added strength.
Each tube can be lifted out of the shelf to be emptied of chips.

We hope to get A contract to build more of these awesome kiosks to be installed in more restaurants across the metro.
