I was commissioned to create two cabinets one wall hung and one freestanding unit for a house in Minneapolis. The client wanted to match the existing woodwork and stain.
removing old non original cabinets and measuring for the new pieces was first.
The original woodwork was a stained/jell coated maple.
So I needed to make a custom mixture to try and match the old woodwork.
Maple plywood with solid wood edge banding and custom cut molding to match old trim
Rabbited door panels with solid maple frame
Many many coats of stain to get the hard maple to take and achieve the desired color.
Hinges and shelf install
5 coats of clear lacquer was then applied
Install day
